SOME HISTORY
POST-GRADUATE EXPERT COURSES
BASIC DOCUMENTS RELATED TO POST-GRADUATE/DOCTORAL STUDIES AND CERTIFICATION OF RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL PERSONNEL
Since the first days of Komsomolsk-on-Amur Polytechnic, one of its main priorities was to organize a post-graduate study division in the Institute and supply its needs in educational and research personnel. In 1955 – 1958 in the Institute there were only 3 PhDs and Associate Professors, and no Doctors or full Professors.
Because there was no post-graduate department in the Institute, until 1989 all PhD's and Doctor's for the Institute's own needs were done in other universities of the USSR, primarily in Moscow and Leningrad. Every year about 30 graduates from the Institute and other tertiary schools were sent up to the Metropolis to get their degrees.
In 1989 the State Committee of the USSR on Education (No. 574 of July 11th, 1989) issued an order to open in the Institute its own PhD program in five disciplines: 05.02.01- Materials technology (in mechanical engineering), 05.03.01- Machining and physical-technical processing, machines and tools, 05.03.05 – Pressure shaping machines and processes, 05.14.04 – Industrial heat-power engineering, 05.14.05 – Basic theory of heat engineering. In 1990 first 5 PhD candidates entered the course.
In March 1994 the Department got a License for training/education activities on PhD level in 26 engineering disciplines, and by the end of that year 5 more disciplines were added including physics, mathematics, economics and social studies. In 2000 PhD programs in cultural and education studies were added to the stock, in 2001 – history and philosophy, in 2008 – philology. Currently our PhD candidates and applicants are doing their degrees in 9 branches of knowledge.
The University's Doctoral program in three disciplines (01.02.04-Mechanics of deformed solid body, 05.03.01 - Machining and physical-technical processing, machines and tools, 05.16.04 Foundry) was launched in 1995 (order No. 689 of May 15th, 1995, USSR State Committee on Education). First doctoral candidates were enrolled in December 1995. Since 2002 the doctoral program has included 5 scientific disciplines.
