OUR FACULTY

In 1955 in , the Evening Komsomolsk-on-Amur Polytechnic School (Rus.: KnAVPI) was established by the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR (№ 1015 of May 25th 1955 ) and by a later order of the Minister of Higher Education of the USSR (№ 664 of June 17th 1955). Acc. to that decree, the structure of the KnAVPI included only the Faculty of Shipbuilding with two academic disciplines: "Shipbuilding and Ship Repair" and "Marine Power Plants".
Teaching at the Shipbuilding and Ship Repair began the same year in September 1955 in the form of evening courses. 50 students were enrolled.

When their 2nd year of studies came to end, a new order No. 426 of April 5th 1957 caused the Shipbuilding Faculty to be formally opened. As the first enrolment of students were nearing their graduation, the issue of setting up a specialized shipbuilding department at the Institute was becoming ever more urgent. Order No. 390 of the Minister of Higher and Specialized Secondary Education of the RSFSR (May 29th, 1960) prescribed that on September 1st 1960 the Shipbuilding Technology Department is to be opened at the University.  The Rector of the Institute on June 3rd 1960 signed an appropriate order to this effect.  Therefore this very date – September 1st 1960 – is the day when the Shipbuilding Department was actually established.

The Department of Marine Power Plants (DMP) as an independent subdivision was first set up in the form of a Subject Board in 1969, while before that time a specialized evening course teaching marine engineers was offered within the Department of Shipbuilding Technology.

In early 1975, the Marine Power Plants Subject Board was given the status of a "department" of the same name, and late in the year the first group of full-time marine engineer graduates got their degrees, while the evening courses continued to work.

In 2008, as a result of the opening of new educational programs and their successful realization, the Shipbuilding Faculty was renamed to the Faculty of Power Engineering, Transport and Marine Technologies, while the Department of Marine Power Plants became "Heat&Power Plants".

Since the establishment of the Faculty of Power Engineering, Transport and Marine Technologies, it included at different periods of time other departments besides the ones already described. Today it incorporates only two departments, i.e.: the Shipbuilding and the Heat&power Plants. They are teaching more than 800 full/part-time or external students. Both departments are manned up by first-class teachers and lecturers 80% of them being holders of PhD or Doctoral degrees in engineering.

The Faculty has more than 400 students. The share of the Faculty's teachers with academic degrees and titles is more than 80%.

The Faculty has at its disposal unique educational and research equipment and facilities including the Model Basin and air tunnels.
