OUR FACULTY
Our Faculty is a team of like-minded enthusiasts, where both teachers and students strive to achieve the key task of higher professional education. Teaching at our faculty is entrusted to Doctors and PhDs, Professors, Associate Professors and Lecturers. Currently we have more than 400 students. Every year more and more enrolees enter our Faculty, among them those who finished secondary school with distinctions and medals or who have accomplishments in sports. During their studies at the Faculty, many of our students make very impressive progress. Over the years we have had students who were awarded personal scholarships of the President and the Government, the Muravyev-Amursky Scholarship, the municipal one, scholarships of the University's Board, and the Potanin Personal Scholarship. Today 150 of our undergraduate students are graded "A" or "B" ones. Advised by their teachers, our students show impressive successes in various city, regional and national-wide scientific competitions. Among our students there are many sportsmen having master and sub-master sports titles, others are members of junior picked teams of the city and the region. At the Faculty we offer post-graduate courses in "Social structure, social institutions and processes". Best graduates can subsequently do their PhD and defend a dissertation.
The professions/disciplines we teach are very prestigious/promising as they are based on humanism, designed to help people and make them law-abiding citizens and independent, self-contained personalities.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
At the Faculty we always pay a great deal of attention to the task of improving and expanding our research potential. In 1997 we opened PhD courses in discipline No. 220004 "Social work, social institutions and processes". Our first three PhD candidates successfully did their studies and defended their theses. Two of them are Social Work professionals. In addition to this, four of our teachers have defended PhD dissertations and two – Doctoral ones.
Our successes in this area are based upon systematic work aimed at teaching and advising PhD students and applicants. In 2003 at all Departments of the Faculty we had 6 PhD candidates and 2 applicants, in 2004 – 7 candidates and 2 applicants, in 2005 – 6 candidates and 2 applicants, in 2006 – 7 candidates and 1 applicants, in 2007 – 6 candidates and 1 applicant.
Our lecturers and professors do research in such areas as family-related and gender-related problems in the Far East. These research materials were used in the project "The Historical Development of Family Life in the Far East of Russia (1860-1917)" (a grant from the Russian Humanitarian Research Foundation, project No. 02-01-00475a/T). Our research results have been also incorporated into study guides we published for the courses that are being delivered at the Faculty.
Our personnel take an active part in the work of Dissertation Board КМ 212.092.02 of the KnASTU as its members.
Over the last 5 years our teachers have published 8 monographs, 44 study guides in different disciplines, 9 of them have been certified by the Education Methods Association and by the Far-Eastern Regional Education Methods Centre; also more than 100 various methodological guidelines and instructions have been issued handed out.
Over the period of 2003 – 2008 our lecturers and professors have published totally 24 papers in peer-review journals from the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles' list, 396 reposts and abstracts for international, national and regional conferences have been prepared.
The Faculty publishes an annual collection of papers by our students, PhD candidates and teachers.
Our undergraduate students also actively participate in research work. They make presentations at scientific conferences, including the annual conference in the KnASTU called "Students' Spring", and publish their papers in the Faculty's collected publication. Our students' papers are also submitted to participate in external competitions.
The scientific results of our students were awarded in 2003 by 6 prized and certificates in external competitions, in 2004 – by 3 KnASTU certificates and 5 awards in external competitions, in 2005 – by 2 KnASTU certificates and in 2006 and 2007 – by 2 and 3 awards in external competitions, respectively.
