OUR FACULTY

The Faculty of Electrotechical Engineering (FEE) was established in 1976 by the University Rector's order (No.148-О of July 15th , 1976), in compliance with the appropriate order issued by the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the RSFSR (No. 287 of June 25th, 1976).

Today our Faculty includes 58 teachers among them 3 Doctors of Science, 5 Professors and 37 PhD holders.

The Faculty is manned predominantly by our own graduates who either finished their studies at the leading universities of Russia (Moscow, S.Petersburg, and Tomsk) or did there their traineeships, PhD or Doctoral degrees.

We have today more than 650 Bachelor and Master Students doing their degrees in 6 disciplines.

The Faculty also has post-graduate courses where our best students continue their academic studies: Electric engineering and electric appliances; Electrotechnical systems; Power electronic; Automation and management of production processes and plant operations (across industries).

Our Departments have at their disposal many laboratories the equipment and facilities of which any other leading university in Russia would surely be proud of. Besides, each Department has its own state-of-the-art computing centres.

Within the Faculty we have the Students' Design&Engineering Division and the Research&Education Innovation Centre for Energy Conservation.

Our students often take first prizes at national and regional academic competitions, or get awards for their attending/participating in scientific conferences, and also do a lot of inventive work.

Our graduates have for the third consecutive time become prize-winners at the "Best university graduate in Khabarovsk Region" competition. Thus, in 2006 the first prize went to M.Gorkavy, while in 2007 – to N.Tkatcheva.

Our A-students get increased or personal scholarships, and are regularly sent for traineeship, to complete their studies or do a PhD or doctoral degree at foreign universities (USA, South Korea) and/or at leading national ones.  One of them was R.A.Genov who did his doctoral degree in the USA and currently holds a Professor's post in Toronto. Currently more than 60 of our students are completing their studies at the City of Moscow Aviation Institute and at the Siberian Air-Space Academy.

In 2005 some of our programs (for the first time ever in the Far-Eastern Federal District) were accredited by the Accreditation Centre of Russian National Association of Engineering Education, which fact paves the way for these graduates' degrees to be accepted in other countries.

The Faculty of Electromechanical Engineering offers advanced English courses in all years of study, which later helps our graduates to find jobs in foreign companies, easily familiarize themselves with new imported equipment and master modern software.

Our Faculty's graduates are specialists in electromechanics, electric power and electronic engineering, wireless engineering, in automation and computing systems, all of which are widely used in civil and military engineering, in banking and stock-exchange activities – in other words in all and every field where electric power is either produced or consumed, where computer technologies and state-of-the-art automation and electronics help meet various professional challenges. This is the reason why the graduates of the FEE are usually in great demand in the labour market.

The first agreement between KnASTU and JSC "AmurMetall" was struck in 2007: it stipulated that every year 20 FEE students from the 4th and 5th years of study would be hired to work in this company. Such students continue their university studies in line with their individual study plans, while their graduation papers are focused on specific problems the company experiences.  All this results in the fact that FEE students become experienced professionals right upon their graduation.

DISSERTATION BOARDS

At the FEE there is a Dissertation Board  КМ 212.092.04 for the following disciplines:

  • 05.09.03 - Electrotechnical systems
  • 05.13.06 - Automation and control of production processes/plants (industry)

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

FEE has its Science&Engineering Council that examines PhD candidates, discusses dissertations and their subjects and carries out pre-defence procedures for PhD candidates and applicants.

The area of scientific focus of the FEE is defined, among other things, by way of responding to the personnel needs of local companies/institutions in the city and in the region.

Research and development within the EED are done in the following areas:
  • development of scientific and methodological framework for computer-based high-efficiency and energy-saving technologies, fuzzy-logic control systems;
  • development of methods/instruments for and studies of quality enhancement systems and efficiency enhancement systems in electric power conversion;
  • development and studies of transformer-based electric heating appliances and of decentralized power supply systems;
  • advanced energy transformers, household and industrial electric equipment;
  • transformer/thyristor stabilizers for a.c. voltage stabilizers;
  • development of welding transformers with enhanced techno-economic parameters;
  • automated laboratory courses and remote-access scientific investigation systems, as exemplified by electric and electronic circuits/appliances and systems of electro-mechanical power transformation;
  • systems of quality enhancement in power supply; automation and computer support of production processes and systems;
The majority of the above listed research areas comply with the Faculty's specialization in professional tertiary education and are aimed at the improvement of the structure of our work and its quality.

As a result of our research efforts, dozens of papers and presentation abstracts are published, applications are submitted (какие заявки??? куда подаются??), new software programs are developed, and PhD and doctoral dissertations defended annually.

Our undergraduate students are also very active in research work. Every year they present dozens of papers at various university, regional and international seminars, conferences and industry exhibitions. Many of them co-authored papers and presentation abstracts.

Every year our students participate in regional and national academic competitions in mathematics, physics, electric engineering, and almost always win them.

The best of them, upon finishing their studies, remain at EED to proceed to their PhD degree.

The fundamental knowledge and skills our graduates acquire at the Faculty, coupled with the extensive practical training they are offered, help them successfully meet the challenges our society face in such fields as electrotechnics, electric power, electronics, automation and control, design&engineering, science and education. This is the reason why the graduates of the FEE are usually in great demand in the labour market.

EDUCATIONAL INFRACTRUCTURE AND FACILITIES

altWe teach our students using the laboratory facilities of which any other leading university in Russia would surely be proud of. Our computer park is kept in line with state-of-the-art. With a view to upgrading our educational/laboratory facilities, we offer fee-based training programs to local population, and seek to conclude contracts with companies for target specialist training.

altAll Departments of the FEE have at their disposal many laboratories such as: basic electronics lab, micro circuitry lab, converter equipment lab, metrology and radio metering lab, microchip engineering lab, television lab, electric machine lab, electric apparatus lab, electric micro machine lab, mathematical modelling lab, household equipment and appliances lab, electric materials engineering lab, unconventional electromechanical energy converters lab, electro-drive control systems lab, software control lab, automated electro-drive theory lab, micro-chip control lab, automated design/engineering systems lab, electric circuits lab, electromagnetic field theory lab.

Our laboratory databases are also one of the best in the country.
