OUR FACULTY
![]() |
The Faculty of Economics and Management is one of the youngest schools of the University. The idea of its establishment was suggested by life itself. In the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur there was no centre for business education, where talented and effective managers of the fledgling open market economy of Russian could get the appropriate knowledge and skills, and degrees, of course. When the local Polytechnic was transformed into a university, this laid the basis for a plant to set up a new division where such an important field of higher professional education/knowledge could be organized and taught in our University, including: economics, finance, commerce, business management. The rise of the Faculty began in 1993, originally on the premises of the then Department of Economics and Management of Mechanical Engineering Production; the Department was headed by G.I.Usanov. The energetic and concerted efforts of the personnel of the Faculty and the whole University led to the result that might have been expected: it was already in July – August 1993 that the first enrolment of two first groups of students into the Bachelor course of "Commerce" was made. In 1994 the Rector's Office and the University Academic Board took a joint decision to open the Faculty of Economics and Management. |

Bachelor and graduate courses in "Management" were launched in 1994. In 1995 the Bachelor program of "Economics" was further extended to include a major graduate course titled "Finance and Credit Operations". In 2000 the Department of Economics and Finance was certified and accredited to offer graduate courses in "Finance and Credit Operations". In June 2004 the Department of Financial Accounting, Analysis and Audit was opened. |

HISTORY OF THE FACULTY
The making of the Faculty began in 1993 on the premises of the then Department of Economics and Mechanical Engineering Production Management; the Department was headed by prof. G.I.Usanov. The energetic and concerted efforts of the personnel of the Faculty and University caused it that already in July – August 1993 the first enrolment of two groups of students into the Bachelor course of "Commerce" was made. In 1994 the Rector's Office and the University Academic Board took a decision to open a Faculty or Economics and Management; Prof. N.S.Otvarukhina was appointed its first Dean.
The fast development and growth of the Faculty was due to the partnership-based integration with The Russian Economic Academy, with economic academies in St.Petersburg, Irkutsk, Khabarovsk, with the Moscow Academy of Managements, and also with universities in USA, China and Japan. Our students were offered advanced lessons of Chinese, Japanese, English or German, as alternatives.
In accordance with the existing personnel needs of the "Techno-Eco-Police: Komsomolsk-on-Amur – Amursk – Solnetchny" program for which hundreds of Bachelor and graduate specialists in Management were needed, in 1994 a new department was added to the Faculty: Industrial Engineering and Management, headed by Prof. G.I.Usanov. At the same time another department of "Industrial Economics and Commerce" (DEEC) was organized with Prof. A.F.Gonchar, Doctor in Economics, at the head of it, where Bachelors of Economics and Commerce were taught.
These activities at the Faculty brought results in 1998 when all degree-granting Departments got their respective state accreditation, and then – the accreditation for Bachelor and graduate courses/programs in "Commerce" and "Management". Many energy and efforts aimed at developing the Faculty were contributed by Head of Industrial Engineering and Management Department Prof. N.S.Otvarukhina, by heads of the Industrial Economics and Commerce Department Prof. A.F.Gonchar (1994-1996), Prof.O.V.Malinovskaya (1996-1998) and Prof.M.I.Razumovskaya, by Dean of the Faculty Associate Professor G.D.Sedelnikov (1996-1999), by Vice-Dean N.P.Lipovka and Head of the Computer Centre of the Faculty – O.K.Yevstigneeva.
In 1999 the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management was split into two new degree-granting Departments: "Marketing and Commerce" – headed by Prof. M.I.razumovskaya, Doctor in Economics, and "Economics and Finance" – headed by Prof. N.N.Simonenko, Doctor in Economics. PhD in Economics, Associate Professor K.E.Nikitin was appointed Dean of the Faculty.
In accordance with the existing needs in Bachelors and graduate management personnel for the program "Techno-Eco-Police: Komsomolsk-on-Amur – Amursk – Solnetchny", in 1994 a new department was added to the Faculty: Industrial Engineering and Management headed by Prof. G.I.Usanov. At the same time another department of "Industrial Economics and Commerce" (DEEC) was organized with Prof. A.F.Gonchar, Doctor in Economics, at the head of it, where Bachelors of Economics and Commerce were taught.
Bachelor and graduate courses in "Management" were launched in 1994. In 1995 the Bachelor program of "Economics" was extended to include graduate major courses "Finances and Credit Operations".

The Department of Economics and Finance can boast very high research rates in what regards publication of monographs and research papers, including those recommended by the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles, and also of abstracts of conference reports, etc. etc., and also of the research work of undergraduate students; these rates are largely in excess of accreditation requirements.
EDUCATIONAL INFRACTRUCTURE AND FACILITIES
Classes take place in rooms and labs of the Department, and in the computing centre of the Faculty of Economics and Management that is equipped with state-of-the-art technology; all our students have access to a specialized library and the also have Internet access.
EMPLOYMENT PROSPECTS
The continuously high rates of enrolment competition signify that the disciplines/professions we teach are in great demand. This is also confirmed by the fact that since the first graduation in 1998 all our former students, now experienced professionals, have been and still are employed in the plants, companies and of Komsomolsk-on-Amur city and in the region.
